In recent years, there have been some major changes in the way that livestock is raised and produced - and very few, if any, of them have been for the better.

One of the most drastic changes in the raising of cattle has been switching from feeding cows grass - their natural diet - to feeding them grain. This change effects not only the cow's health, but the quality of the meat and milk produced.

Lean red meat is extremely high in important nutrients such as iron, Vitamin B-12, and protein. This is true of all red meat, but grass-fed protein is significantly better for you than grain-fed. Grass-fed cows also produce higher-quality milk, meaning that the whey protein of grass-fed cows is more healthy and nutritionally dense. Besides being free of questionable hormones and antibiotics, grass-fed cows are more likely to:

  • Produce whey protein that is 2-6 times higher in omega-3 fatty acids - a necessary and health-enriching compound that the body can't produce on its own
  • Produce meat that contains less total fat than grain-fed
  • Produce whey protein that is significantly higher in antioxidants such as vitamin A and vitamin E
  • Produce protein that contains higher levels of conjugated linoleic acid, a type of healthy fat that has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease and certain cancers

It's because of these obvious health benefits that we use only grass-fed protein in our whey protein bar. If you're looking for a protein source that is healthy, effective, and good for the environment, grass-fed protein is the way to go.
