Everyone's been talking about the Keto Diet lately.
Simply put, it is a high protein, high fat and low carb diet that helps your body burn fat rather than sugar.
How you ask? Well, let me explain.
When you eat a whole plate of spaghetti, or anything high in carbs, your body produces large amounts of glucose and insulin. Glucose is like sugar, and it's really easy for your body to convert into energy, so that's exactly what it does. Therefore, the fat that you just ate gets stored in (more like, ON, am I right?) your body. The goal of the Keto Diet is to encourage the body to burn fat instead of storing it. It does this through a process called ketosis. Ketosis is a metabolic state that occurs naturally in the body. When the body is in this state, it creates something called ketones. Ketones are produced from the breakdown of fats in the liver. The body will soon start to burn these ketones, instead of glucose, to give you energy.
But--enough with the science. How does this actually help you?
Having your body in this state of ketosis offers many physical and mental benefits. Many people love this diet simply because of the sharp mental focus it helps them achieve. It also boosts weight loss with the low carb, high protein intake.
